Book Review: Forever is a Lie (JustMyThoughts)

 Forever is a Lie

             -Novoneel Chakraborty

Forever is a Lie is a story of Prisha, a 18- year old girl, living in the beautiful city of Bangalore , studying Mass Communications. She is heart broken and initially presents as an introvert, not willing to mingle with anyone.

On the other hand, we have Saveer, a 34 years old man who has been living  with the constant guilt of killing his girlfriend. Throughout the story, he keeps repeating that she died due to him, his whole family and nearly all his favorite acquaintance have died and he was responsible for it. He also mentions that he should have told his girlfriend, Ishanvi about..... What is it that keeps him so much in guilt and what did he wanted to tell her? An investment banker by career, he leaves his well paying job after the death of  Ishanvi and starts an NGO.

The character of Saveer is split in two ways, one side he wants to avoid the misery in his life by avoiding it completely and on the other, the book mentions that he has crated his home around the misery. Do you feel the same sometimes? Sometimes, for the same thing, we often have opposite feelings and at different times, we prefer one over the other.
One side, Saveer believes he must finish himself for everything he is and hence trading on that path , he  makes himself available for women at pubs where he is famous as The Mean Monster and on the other hand, he talks about the depth of love he has felt and how important each moment and memory of Ishanvi has been for him.

Eventually, Prisha, being heart broken , tries to understand what Saveer means when he talks about love. She says that Saveer's words have help her unlearn what she should have after her breakup. She develops crush on him and tries to get around him and as the time gets on, they get really close to each other.

Things aren't as smooth as they sound!

Around the end of the novel, Prisha starts to notice very odd behavior of Saveer and wants to talk about this. On the other hand, Saveer is still afraid of losing Prisha and still things that he would end up killing Prisha if they got closer. in the las few chapter, Saveer notices a strange tattoo on the back which clams to run all his happiness. There is also mention of a women whose appearance and disappearance has been very weird. All we  know is, Saveer and Prisha meet on his birthday and then, she is pushed to death. By whom? Did the women has a role in this? Or was it Saveer?  the most important question that remains is- WHY? All the deaths on Saveer's Birthday, Is that a Co-incident?

Guys, till the very last page, I wasn't aware of this but, the book has a sequalae, Forever is True  which describes what happens next.

I have started with the book and will be back in JustMyThoughts Series of book reviews!
Till then See yaa!

Thank you

ANU.

  1. I could see see parts of saveer trying to change for better, regardless of what the end result is. I would love to read about this process.

The Abundant Room Upstairs, No One is Allowed to enter! #1

There is an old brown dusty chair that sits in the abandoned room upstairs. I didn’t figure out who does it belongs to yet we, the family who resides here on rental basis, are forbidden for using it. Mamma says that we must not enter the room, at any cost. Yet, I trespassed this boundary yesterday, when my dearest cat went upstairs, like she usually does. I didn’t ponder upon this fact as Cookie has her favorite place to sleep upstairs. But upon her no appearing back even after opening up of its favorite food (cats are very strong at detecting smell), a doubt arose. I waited for a few more minutes and when my expectations failed too, I decided to go upstairs and check. The forbidden room was at left, so I went forward and checked the room on the right side. “Cookie” I called out. No response. I called out again, twice, yet the result was just as the first time, that is no response again. I had the bowl of cat food in my hand, whose presence would have been hard to go unnoticed, given...

Fading in, Fading Out

I fade in and out of my thoughts. I oscillate between the thoughts snatching my attention and later, liberating me to drift back to the soothing sleep which says that nothing else matters. My thought leaves my side when my sleep drifts me away with it and I come back to my never-ceasing-to-think brain with another dream. Everyone else in the home is asleep in their own imaginatory world that belongs just, just to them. As I open my eyes, nothing is visible to me. Darkness engulfs everything. No even ones shadow is spared from it. I open the window a bit more, to let in the moonlight shining and dancing outside. It enlightens the room a bit but not all the nook and corners of it. Stepping out from the bed, I turned on a little torch and searched for mirrors (I couldn’t turn on the lights as I don’t want to break the spell casted in the moment by the night). Now, by placing the mirrors the way I want them to be , I could direct the moonlight to the place I want it to glimmer arounds...
I have the same sequence of thoughts. I think about work, what is it taking out of me and where will it take me, and during the process, I'll either end up scrolling or sleeping, expressing my mental physical tiredness. I don't know how my friends are managing this internship and taking out consistent time to study and prepare for the competitive exams and with their instagram stories revealing that they are not missing out on fun! And, about the internship- I try to finish the tasks I have been given; I try to do a little more, learn a little more, try something beyond the regular stuff till the time I am tired. I try imagining where exactly, out of the places I have been posted, would I like to be working. but till now, I have not been able to reach to a conclusion. Give me a few free hours and I will either sleep or read novels. Recently the latest books I have read are- The Bastard of Istanbul , The –Perfect– Marriage and right now, its Girls Burn Brighter - all these nove...
