There is an
old brown dusty chair that sits in the abandoned room upstairs. I didn’t figure
out who does it belongs to yet we, the family who resides here on rental basis,
are forbidden for using it. Mamma says that we must not enter the room, at any
cost. Yet, I trespassed this boundary yesterday, when my dearest cat went
upstairs, like she usually does. I didn’t ponder upon this fact as Cookie has
her favorite place to sleep upstairs. But upon her no appearing back even after
opening up of its favorite food (cats are very strong at detecting smell), a
doubt arose. I waited for a few more minutes and when my expectations failed
too, I decided to go upstairs and check.
The
forbidden room was at left, so I went forward and checked the room on the right
side. “Cookie” I called out. No response. I called out again, twice, yet the
result was just as the first time, that is no response again. I had the bowl of
cat food in my hand, whose presence would have been hard to go unnoticed, given
the aroma it had (it was aromatic for the cat and not for me).
Should I go
in the abundant room to check her there? Well, the room has been abundant for us
but I didn’t expect the cat to understand that. Had it been an informed human,
the chances of finding them out in that room would have been less, but since in
this case, we are considering a cat, there are more chances she would love to
explore the unexplored!
The door wasn’t locked (why wasn’t that locked
today? I have never seen that unlocked until now). I am sure Cookie is inside. I
opened the door with the least force needed. It responded in a little squeak. Watching
the unexpected, the room looked rather clean. Should an abundant room look
dirty and dusty and serve as a good example for Brownian motion when given a
small light source? Well, that was certainly not the case here.
What did I find
here? Cookie, the first thing but the other sights couldn’t be ignored! The 3
walls (except the one from where I entered) were covered with mirrors and on
the plane of the mirror, there were tones of hangings. There were a few lands,
a few aesthetic drawings, a huge notice-board sort of the thing on the wall
just right-side to me, having several newspaper cuttings and check list items,
some checked and other, maybe pending or in work-in-progress state and yes, The
Authentic (yet old, not dusty as I thought of it before) Wooden chair, facing
me and in between me and the chair stands a table. It looked like a perfect
working apparatus and regularly used. Under the table, were a few big,
literally big bunches of paper bundles kept. They were huge, big bundles. I stepped
forward to have a closer look.
“Excuse me.”
A voice called from behind. The girl was the house-cleaner which was appointed by
the House-owner himself. Now I understood why we got this deal at such low negotiations!
“You shouldn’t be here, honey” she said politely, yet her tone seemed weird,
maybe annoyed? Shocked? Terrified? Impatient? Maybe a mixture of all of these? I
simply nodded. I didn’t argue or express my curiosity about the room. For a
second, I felt like I have trespassed the border of the country without visa
and now, I’ll be accountable to their military, begging for forgiveness ad way
to home but it didn’t take me long to realize that I am at my own home and all I
have to do is keep all of these happenings a secret, pick-up cookie and her
food-bowl in my other hand and silently get back, downstairs.
I obliged and ran downstairs in a composed manner. Yet, I couldn’t suppress the will to visit and explore it again. What were those bundles of papers? Those paper on the mirrored walls? Did I see a similar paper on the table as well? I wanted to go back but not today. Maybe, sometimes later?
Thank you
