It is the last morning that I will be spending at this
place. I have been residing at this place ever since I started forming permanent
memories. I have grown up at this place physically, emotionally, even
academically, and just a little, Socially.
We are leaving this place and getting shifted to a newer
city, I’ll talk about the city later!
The time would pass slower but the day is going to be indeed
dynamic and eventful. I step out of my room to contribute towards the great
cause of Packing. I did expect the other rooms to be messy but what I saw, was
the room was even messier than what I
had imagined. Everything was strewn here and there, clothes piled haphazardly
on the top of each other, books kept as a stack which was highted tall and could
fall any moment, without any warnings!
Instead of passing things from a point to another, they were
being thrown from the point where they were placed and caught at the point where
they were meant to be and thud! some catches are dropped too, and when there is
a commotion like the one in front of me
, the frequency of dropped catches was
more.
Not an inch of space was left, even for walking on our toes!
The refrigerator had to be turned off soon before it is packed , so that it gets
defrosted and hence could easily be shifted. The big deal about this task was,
would we take out our chocolate and if we did, would it melt !! In whose bag
would it go, moms new one( no way, i guess) or the bag which i plan to take to
collage at my first day!
When I proposed the plan to finish off the chocolate before
it melts, I was replied by being frowned
at !!One thing worth mentioning here is, the chocolates which we are talking
about here were gifted to us by a friend
of ours as a farewell of leaving to another city.
I will talk about the city later!!
Hello, come back to reality!. Instead of dodging questions,
I came back to action and went straightaway to my room to get started with the
procedure. I opened the almirah and sat down at the floor, which made the
process easier. I can still hear the dropping-of-stuff sounds in the background
as I began to sort out the stuff.
Memories came flooding to me, with each and every thing I
picked up. There was a lime-coloured t-shirt which I didn’t wear since a long
time . I
remember remarkably the last time
I wore the t-shirt and accidently locked myself in the room and I had no
clue about how is that firm thing going to lay down a way so that I can move
out , when there was a birthday party going outside! I giggled-out at the
memory and that, I was eventually rescued and what a kid I was back then!
I badly wanted to go back in time and enjoy the moments
better!
Knock, Knock
There were knocks at the door, which indicated that movers and packers have come! I wanted some
more time with my things and the nostalgia it brought with itself but Life goes
on, and so should you . I hurried up with the packing and handed my bag to my
mother, who kept it in the to-the-finishing-touch packing area. The noises of
tearing and unwinding of the tapes against the gummy-binding force it had with
the under-lying layers accompanied with folding and unfolding of cardboard and
cutting of brown packing paper were constant now. As the time ticked off, all
the colourful things with captivating texture were nothing more than brown
paper enveloped in a feeling-less protective covering .Everything was a even
and similar sight now, all the objects lost their individual identity and the
most noticeable change, my voice echoed, just like it happened the first day I
entered this home. I felt sad.
I was physically, emotionally and mentally exhausted after
toiling hard in all these dimensions.
Time passed and the commotion continued ..There were continuous
agreements, disagreements and bouts of laughter throughout the duration of
packing and loading of the truck which was ready to start off for its
destination.
but before we left , we respectfully received the visit the
street cat paid us. Maybe, he too notice the disappearance of the goods on
which it left it’s fragrance upon and he
too noticed that something was wrong ( was it all my imagination !?) and
missing. He looked curious and refused to drink milk that we poured in the bowl
for the last time for him.🥺
The cat went away, so did our luggage and we , too, were all
set to start a new life in a different environment, with different people and
in a different city.
I will talk about the city later!!
